Last week Todd got a 17th floor hotel room for a few nights so he could buckle down and finish up the book we've had in the works for a while now. I took advantage of the view to get some slightly different perspective photos of the Detroit skyline. I didn't really want to use another Detroit photo for my post this week, because even I'm getting tired of them. But I hardly had time to sleep this week, let alone shoot some different photos. I'm fighting my eyelids as I type this.

Here's a bonus shot with some dimension, physically and figuratively. Another view of the skyline with Todd hard at work on the computer and Brigham on the other side talking to his girlfriend on the phone.

After work on Friday night I went out to a warehouse where some local skaters have some ramps set up. Steve Stiller, who runs Skate Windsor asked me to come out and shoot some photos for the website. Check out their Website (under construction) and the facebook page.

My main photo for this week is from a game of D.O.G. the guys were playin on flatground. All night my flashes kept creeping into my photos because they won't trigger if they're not in fair sight of my camera's pop-up flash (which triggers the others wirelessly). So eventually I just decided to set up some photos with the flashes in them on purpose, at least then I could predict it.

I haven't even got to editing them all yet. But I quickly edited a few just so I could post them today. I probably won't get to the rest for another week. Thanks, day job.

Here's a bonus photo from the same night. I decided to get fancy and try some colored lighting with my homemade flash gels.

Also, I wish I could tell you the names of these skaters but I forget. I know them all casually from hanging out at the skate park but I'm terrible at remembering names.

Area 53 Photo Project - Week #12

Last night after work I had my friends from Lung Diary over to the garage/photo studio do get some band photos done. It was a good chance to try out my newest photography toy, a roll of 9-foot wide white background paper.

I quickly learned I need more flashes. I currently have 2, but you really need 2 just to light up the background properly if you want a pure white effect. But I think I did alright considering.

I wish the Christmas lights idea was mine, but they came up with it themselves. They pretty much played around with whatever was hanging on the walls in the garage. I've got many other cool shots but I've only had time to edit a handful of them so far.

Area 53 Photo Project - Week #11

I haven't had much time to take photos lately. But I managed to squeeze in a couple hours of light hunting on a muddy trail after work. Lately I've been shooting mostly night photos, so I think these are a nice change. Lots of sunlight, but with the night closing in.

Photo #10

Tuesday night I headed out on foot to do some photo exploring. I went to a somewhat industrial area within walking distance from my house and started a journey along the train tracks in deep snow. As soon as I found the first place to start taking photos a nice fog rolled in.

At first it was a thin layer of fog at about eye level. If I bent down I could look under the fog and see all the way down the train tracks, but if I stood up straight I could only see about 50 feet.

The fog kept up for awhile, changing shape and density. Before I knew it I had spent 3 hours wandering around the train tracks and a nearby field. All the photos here are from that night. I have plenty more good shots but I thought this was enough to post for now. Enjoy.
