Week 18

I spent my Friday night in a field surrounded by power lines, train tracks and the Windsor Airport. I started by shooting some photos of the big red and white power lines that look like a giant swing set. After a few minutes a train showed up to move some boxcars around. While I was shooting the train, the airport's runway lit up.

I set up a shot of the airport, waiting for the plane to come. Finally, with little warning a medium sized passenger plane roared over me on its way to a safe landing. I got a good photo of the plane landing (basically a streak of light descending to the ground). I also got a neat shot of the train moving some boxcars. But I want to save those photos for a future project.

So here are a couple of photos to sum up my Friday night.

Photo #17 - Sweet, Sweet Photoshop

I didn't really shoot much this past week. I shot a handful of photos at the Kart track on Saturday, but I didn't get anything too interesting. Usually I don't like doing too much to my photos in Photoshop, but I thought I'd try some things to make this photo look interesting enough to use for my weekly photo.

I processed two versions of this photo from the RAW file. One I made really dark, and the other I lightened up a little. Then, in Photoshop I put the the dark sky together with the light forground.

Hopefully I'll have some time to get out and shoot some more photos this week. I'm planning to do some more night photos again soon. I haven't done much night stuff lately and its my favourite type of photography.

Week 16 - Bestech Racing

Last summer my dad and I got back into kart racing (my second time back, his third). A group of guys got together and built a small dirt oval track just outside of the city. It started out as a cheap fun way to go racing, but as more and more people started racing out there the competition went up and so did the budgets.

We kept it fairly simple and spent a lot less money than the front runners. But we still did very well. I ended up tied for 7th in the points out of more than 40 drivers. My dad finished the season 2nd in the seniors class.

Over the winter my dad put in a lot of work to get the kart updated and ready for the 2010 season. I wish I could say I had more to do with it, but he put in 95% (if not more) of the work and money to took to get it looking (and running) good.

This season there are a lot more drivers and some pretty big budgets, so we'll see how we stack up against them. This past Saturday we took the kart out to the track for the first time. (April is all practice and fun racing, with the season officially starting on the first Monday night in May). So, Friday night I did a little photo session with the kart in the garage before we took it to the track and got it dirty.

Week 15

On Tuesday I had my first day off in over two weeks so I made the best of it and headed to the skatepark with my bike and camera. It was the first time back on my bike since at least November. I rode a little to shake off the cobwebs then I brought out my camera. Most of the regulars were there and ready to throw down for some photos.

My main photo this week is Chase Davidson throwing a tailwhip while Ryan gets stoked (and tipsy). I threw in some bonus photos of the day fading into night. Enjoy.
