Todd was nice enough to invite me to come take some photos at a Windsor Spitfire's press conference last week. The Spitfire's President and owner, Bob Boughner was on hand to announce he will be returning as Head Coach for the 2011-12 Season.Boughner spent last season in the NHL as Assistant Coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

I didn't shoot a lot of photos this week, but I tried. I just got a new lens that I've been wanting for years now, the Sigma 10-20mm. I haven't had a chance to really try it out, but I went for a walk one day with it last week and took a few simple photos.

Area 53 - 2011 - Photo #11

Last week I finally did something I've been meaning to do for a while, shoot from the top of a parking garage in downtown Windsor. One of the things I hate about this city is how flat it is. I always want to shoot photos from a higher vantage point. This weeks main photo is another panorama looking west towards the Ambassador Bridge.

I managed to get a nice sunset last week. When I set out the sky was dull but I was patient and it paid off. I couldn't find a whole lot for the foreground but this old gate provided some interest. The first shot is a panorama and the bonus photo below is a closer single shot. Thanks for looking.

Area 53 - 2011 - Photo #5

Today Todd and I went for a walk at Ojibway Park to find some deer. Eventually we saw one and starting shooting photos. I knew there had to be more nearby. Then another came out of the bushes. Then another. Within about 15 minutes there were 10-12 deer all around us. So here are my bests from the day. Enjoy.

Week 46

I went out the other night to shoot some taillight photos at the Walker Rd & Grand Marais underpass. I've shot here before but I thought I'd give it another try. I didn't stay too long because it was too cold and I couldn't find my gloves. Everytime winter comes back around I can't find the gloves I had bought the previous winter.

So my photo for this week is looking north along Walker Road with the Chrysler plant in the background. The second photo is the first one I shot this night and I thought it was cool. It's looking east down Grand Marais.

With nothing to do on Saturday night after work I decided I better make the best of the night and go light hunting. I waited until about 11:30, hoping the clouds would lift a little so I could get a low hanging moon in my photos, but it didn't happen. Although as soon as I got home, I went out for a cigarette and saw a huge setting moon breaking through the clouds over the rooftops in the direction of Detroit. Thanks Moon.

I already knew where I wanted to go. A place I've always had in the back of my mind but never actually bothered to go for photos, Goose Bay. It's really nothing special in relation to the many places along Riverside Drive but its a nice quiet place aside from the traffic along the Drive.

Right away it lived up to its name as there where about 30 Geese sitting along the ice in the bay talking amongst themselves. I spent about 2 hours there which seemed like less than one. My main photo for this weak is a little cliché but I think it is the best of the series for impact and technical quality. The ever present Detroit Skyline. As a Windsor photographer I've shot this skyline many times but this is my favourite so far. I was hoping for a ship to pass along the river while I was there but no such luck, another time perhaps.

On to the bonus photos. The first is one of the last I shot. I tried to get as close to the Geese as I could without disturbing them, but they started honking and slowly made their way into the safety of the open water. This is about a 10 second exposure of the Geese leaving.

This last photo is one of the first I shot on this outing. This is a seven-photo panoramic stitched together in Photoshop. This is Goose Bay, looking south-east with headlights streaking along Riverside Drive. The very left of this photo (on the other side of the bay) is where I shot the skyline photo from, facing the opposite direction...if that makes sense.

Thats it...I think that's more than I meant to write about this week. But thats a good thing, I've been meaning to do more writing, if you can call it that.

Chase

Last week a bunch of us met up at the skatepark with the intention of riding a bunch of street spots. After a couple hours at the park waiting for Seth to finish what must have been a super Big Gulp cup of coffee and show up at the park, we headed to a nearby high school to rock some ledges. We didn't end up going to half the places we had planned to, but I still got some decent photos.

End of the Season

Monday night was the final points race of the season at the kart track. After four months of racing many drivers were still close in points. I myself was just aiming to keep a spot in the top ten. I haven't seen the final point standings but I figured I ended up tied for 8th out of about 45 karts.


I was happy with my top ten finish in my first year back in a kart in about ten years. Almost all the karts in the top ten had much more horse power then our modest near stock Honda clone 6.5hp engine.


I shot more photos than I usually do on a Monday. I enjoy taking photos at the track but I usually don't have the time to do a lot of photography if there's work to be done on our kart. But this week the kart ran great, and I stayed out of trouble on the track.



As the season went on the word spread about the track and each week more and more spectators showed up. This week there had to be at least 300 people in the audience and that's not including the people in the pits.





After the drivers meeting we had all the drivers assemble on the track for a class photo. I set the 10 second timer and jumped into the photo at the far right.


Now we move to Saturday afternoons until the end of October for fun racing and testing for the 2010 season.

Snowbirds

The Air Show is in town this weekend and yesterday there was much commotion in the skies over our house. I caught Canada's own Snowbirds flying overhead from my backyard. Usually I don't have enough to get my camera out and change lenses from the time I hear the roar of a jet to the time it streaks past. But they made a few passes and I was able to get one decent shot without trees or telephone lines in the way.

I was planning on heading out around the airport to get some photos today of the planes warming up for tomorrow's events, but its been raining all day so far. I have to work tomorrow but I might journey to the airport on Sunday, weather permitting.
