Area 53 - 2011 - Photo #40
I spent the last week at a cottage in the Haliburton/Algonquin area with my Girlfriend, Laura and my sister and her husband. Now I'll be spending the majority of this week editing all the photos. This shot is from the Spruce Bog trail in Algonquin Park.

Last week Todd asked me to come out and shoot some video/photos of him getting into the ring with local champion boxer Mary Spencer. It wasn't a real fight, just a little demonstration but Todd still took a few to the nose and was feeling it later. The video should be up on www.windsorspitfires.com sometime this week.

Yesterday we went to Grand Bend to race our Karts at the Grand Bend Speedway during Windsor Weekend. The kart track is a small dirt oval inside the 1/4 mile speedway. This photo is along the front stretch of the speedway.

I went out last night to shoot the sunset, but there wasn't much to be had. So as the light faded I decided to try some twilight shots. I went to a spot I know next to the 401. As I was failing to get any good shots towards the west, where the sun had just set, I noticed the moon coming up from behind the clouds to the east. So I turned that way and got some tail light/cloudy moon shots.

Todd was nice enough to invite me to come take some photos at a Windsor Spitfire's press conference last week. The Spitfire's President and owner, Bob Boughner was on hand to announce he will be returning as Head Coach for the 2011-12 Season.Boughner spent last season in the NHL as Assistant Coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

I'm a day late again. Not good reason, I was just busy yesterday and kind of forgot it was Monday. Anyway, I have something a little different this week. I recently bought a cheap IR (Infrared) filter last week so I've been trying to figure that out. I'm still struggling to get good results with it as it requires insanely long exposure time.
This photo was about 2 minutes long in the sunlight, and it still came out a little dark. I had to lighten it a lot and apply quite a bit of noise reduction in Lightroom. I also toned down the saturation a lot because everything comes out very red.

I didn't shoot a lot of photos this week, but I tried. I just got a new lens that I've been wanting for years now, the Sigma 10-20mm. I haven't had a chance to really try it out, but I went for a walk one day with it last week and took a few simple photos.

Area 53 - 2011 - Photo #27
I just realized I forgot to post yesterday. No reason, it just slipped my mind. But I still have photos. My main photo this week is just a random shot from driving around the county for fun. The sky was nice so I shot this panorama and added some light HDR.
My bonus photo would have been my main photo, but I've already posted it on the Weather Network website and Facebook.
I knew a good storm was coming so I drove out into the county to hopefully get some lighting shots as the storm rolled in, before the rain (and hail) started. Shorty after this photo, the storm hit, and it was pretty intense. By far the worst storm I've ever been out in. I thought there was a tornado and the wind was rocking my car pretty violently. I pulled into a small side street and parked next to a house for some shelter from whatever debris the wind might have been blowing.

Last week I did a little storm chasing but never got lucky. I'm still waiting to catch a good lightning photo. I came across this spot that I've shot before, and while there wasn't any lightning there was plenty of good light.

This weeks photo is one of the last ones I shot in Tobermory. I shot many of our dock on Lake Huron. This was quite late in the sunset, and I used a small flashlight to light up the foreground.
One day during our time in Tobermory, Laura and I did a little exploring to some abandoned places on the Peninsula that I found on the internet. This is the stairs at a tiny old schoolhouse.
A typical night for us at the cottage, drinks by the fire until the howl of coyotes in the bushes at midnight sends us back indoors. Me on the right, Laura on the left. My sister and Rob behind Laura.
Anyone who's been to the area is no stranger to bratty Red Squirrels.

So, I'm a week late but I have a good reason. I spent the last week in Tobermory gathering photos (1245 to be specific). I spent a good hour last monday trying to post these photos from my girlfriend's iPhone but I couldn't get it to work and decided to give up and enjoy the campfire on the lake.
The first photo is from one of my nightly sunset photo sessions along the water behind the cottage we rented. We didn't get any really stunning sunsets but they were decent at least.
This is a photo of our cottage from the view of our campfire on the lake with the full moon rising. I had already brought my camera gear back to the cottage for some reason and rather then walk a few feet to retrieve it, I used my girlfriend Laura's Camera. I also lit the trees up with a hefty flashlight.
I also have a couple panoramas from Bruce Peninsula National Park. This first is from my favourite little overhang tucked in the trees away from the rest of the tourists that I like to hide in for some peace. This is the same location as my cliche feet-hanging-over-the-edge photo that I've shot on a few separate occasions.
Finally, here is a panorama of the outside of the grotto. Surprisingly there was no one else here at the time. Usually this time of year its packed with at least a class worth of kids on a school trip. Stay tuned later for THIS weeks post. I just need to make a few last edits.

Saturday was the first big Bike Jam of the season at Forest Glade Skatepark. I showed up later than I wanted to, as usual, but I was still able to catch most of the action. The first photo is Jayde Cunningham with a 360 barspin over the spine in Best Trick.
This wall got gapped a lot throughout the day. Ryan Seguin successfully 180'd it.
I'll finish this post off with the end of the day bike sculpture/group photo. This is only a handful of the riders who were there throughout the day.

I've already posted this photo on facebook, but I didn't shoot anything else this week. So this is my best photo of the week, even though I usually try to make this post fresh, its better then rushing a junk photo for the sake of something brand new. This is Chase Davidson on a solid day of riding.

I only had a bunch of photos I didn't really like this week. So I went out today to try and find some good photos. But the weather was boring and snowy. I shot this panorama at a small conservation area in LaSalle with a little lookout tower.
With winter still hanging around Hobo has been forced to spend even more of his day tucked under the covers. Just for the record he did this himself, I didn't stage this.

I almost forgot to post my photo for this week again, but I've got a few minutes left still. I was late last week because I left on Monday for a photo road trip and forgot all about it. I just got home tonight, so I have many more photos but here are a few of my favourites that I had edited already. The first is a random find I came across near Owen Sound. The sky was great that day. About the only good sky I got all week.
One of the main places I had planned on visiting was the old Marmora Mine northeast of Peterborough. I shot this panorama one ugly rainy night just on a recon mission. I had planned on coming back and looking for the hole in the fence to do some real exploring, but the next day was uglier and I just never made it back.
This gutted motel was along Hwy 7 near Marmora.
I shot this panorama of Inglis Falls on my second day, along with a couple other waterfalls, but this was the best one.
